Kindergarden Wallern

Room to grow, play, and explore

Room to grow, play, and explore

Place // Wallern, Austria

Programme // Kindergarden

The development concept envisions the main entrance accessible both from the newly created driveway and from Schulstraße. The entrance area is deliberately set back from the street. Between the traffic area and the building, there is a well-proportioned forecourt with an adjacent parking lot, which serves as a spatial buffer and enhances both the comfort and safety of the children. There are a total of 15 car parking spaces as well as two spaces for minibuses for arrivals and departures. Additionally, covered bicycle parking and a covered area for strollers are planned. The new kindergarten building is intentionally designed as an elongated, two-story structure along the western street, providing a barrier to the public road and orienting its group rooms to the east, where most of the morning sunlight can be captured. The simple building has a gable roof, and thus blends harmoniously into the surrounding buildings.

You can reach the foyer through the covered entrance area, it's generously sized and designed as a multifunctional meeting space. In addition to play and movement options, there are quiet areas to hang out with a little library corner and comfortable waiting spaces for parents. The staff area is set up like its own cluster, with a manager's office, staff wardrobe, and staff room right near the main entrance, ensuring good organizational oversight. At the same time, it isn’t visible from the front, so it provides the necessary privacy. On the ground floor, there’s a flexible multipurpose room equipped with a catering sink and a continuous buffet at child-friendly height. With a mobile folding wall, this room can be connected to the auditorium if needed, creating a spacious event area for parties, theater performances, or other community activities. The centrally located activity room can also be integrated into this spatial concept with another folding wall. Its central position ensures short distances for all groups.
